The power of reflection

There was a fascinating programme on the radio the other day about how we are losing the ability to reflect quietly because there are so many opportunities to be continuously interacting and doing things – it used to be just the TV and books that took up our reflection time but now there’s the internet, iplayer, twitter, facebook, linked in, blogs, texting……
And apparently all this activity is leaving us with far less time for unconscious processing because we’re always consciously stimulating the brain – and it’s beginning to change the way we think and our ability to think deeply.
So if you’ve just been on holiday and managed to switch off and do some daydreaming then it may have been a great opportunity for you to refresh your thinking skills and to come back to work refreshed in mind and body. Hang on to those insights you had in your moments of reflection as they may have been when your mind was working effectively and thinking deeply.
